Absolutely. Many authors try to get by without a website. Others have old, outdated sites. We get it, writing and publishing is time consuming; you don't have time for a website. But ignoring your website will only hurt your literary career. Don't believe us? Here are four important reasons why you need a professional website as an author.
Authors without websites are viewed as unprofessional and not serious about their literary career. This can drive people and business away from you. Some publishers won't even work with you unless you have an established website.
As a professional author there's no doubt you have loyal readers that want to know more about your and your work. Only your website can show them your biography, upcoming book releases, FAQs, events, and contact info all in one place.
What's the best way to let your readers know about the latest addition to your book series? By email! A website will allow your loyal fans to sign up for your newsletter, which you can in turn use to notify them of your latest publications.
Having is a website is like free marketing for your publications. It shows readers your books, their plots and backstories, indepth character profiles, raving reviews, and even lets them buy them instantly online. What's better than that?
Your new author website will promote your latest work, strenghten your readership, and grow your professional reputation. Here's what our clients have achieved through their author websites:
William Haywood Henderson
William Henderson's old website was outdated, bland, and didn't work on smartphones. Furthermore, Bill wanted to shift the focus of his website from his coaching classes to his literary works; he wanted a fresh site to showcase his books about the American West.
Bill's redesigned website places a strong focus on both his literary work, featured prominately on the home page, and his photography of Western landscapes, featured throughout the website. Additionally, his new website now works on all mobile devices.
I hired Vlatko because I needed my website fully redesigned. He listened to my goals, ideas, and vision, and he produced the perfect version of the website I had imagined. He was receptive and accommodating throughout the entire design process, and I couldn't be happier with the final result.
A website isn't enough, your brand is important too! Many authors are concerned about their building their brand online. Branding is tough, but by asking all the right questions, we take out the guesswork. Our branding process guarantees you professional online branding that matches your literary career.
In light of Rita's latest publication, A Guest at the Shooters' Banquet, she needed to shift her website's focus from herself as an author to selling her latest novel. The website was also outdated and wasn't mobile friendly.
Designed to reflect her new novel, Rita's site now focuses primarily on engaging visitors to learn about the novel while various calls-to-action entice them to preorder. Her new website provides higher user engagement and an overall better user experience.
Vlatko is an extremely gifted web designer who worked closely with me to ensure the best outcome. He continues to be a responsive, innovative, and accommodating part of my publicity team. He is the best combination of artistic, practical, and web savvy smarts. I recommend him highly.

After having the honor of designing websites for countless authors, we've developed two design packages that best keep authors' web design goals—and budgets—in mind.
Your domain name (e.g. "www.yourname.com") must be purchased by you, the author. Domain names are cheap; they cost about $10/year and can be purchased from a variety of registrar. We recommend Namecheap for its regular discounts and free first-year privacy protection. We're happy to help you register your domain name.
Domain name setup fee: included in all website packages
All websites require a website hosting plan; website hosting is where your website lives on the Internet. If you already have a website, you're already paying for a hosting account somewhere. If this is your first website, you'll need to purchase a website hosting plan for your new site. As finding the right hosting plan can be time consuming and frustrating, we offer managed website hosting:
Website hosting fee: $19/month, billed annually
Your website is finished and online, but what if you need to update it? Some authors only update their website during a new book launch, others have their sites regularly updated with new book reviews, press releases, and event attendances. Based on your needs, we offer one-time updates and monthly maintenance packages.
One-time updates work best for authors who use their website as an online business card. One-time updates usually don't take more than an hour or two.
One-time update fee: $79/hour, billed by hourly increments
Monthly maintenance packages are great for bestselling authors who have a large stream of media attention coming in and constantly are scheduling public events. We'll make sure your website is up-to-date on a weekly basis for a small monthly fee.
Monthly maintenance fee: $129/month, billed monthly
What's the best way to let people know you've released a new book, or that you'll be attending a book signing in their city, or just to share something with them? Email!
We'll setup an easy-to-use email newsletter system (MailChimp) for you and integrate its email sign up form on your website so your readers can opt into receiving email notifications.
Newsletter setup fee: $79
What good is a professional website without a professional email address? For a small fee, we'll setup your Gmail account to send and receive emails through your website's domain email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org).
Custom email address setup fee: $39
